The story
Simply Fluent started in 2018 when founder Marco Ivarsson wanted to read one book in Dutch. A year and a half of Duolingo hadn't gotten him there, so he tried a paper copy of a novel with Google Translate on his phone, gave up after a couple of pages, and built the reader he wanted instead: select a word, see the translation in the text, save it, never look it up again. The reading itself taught him Dutch, then Spanish, then Portuguese. The app is that same method, built for other people.
