People learning a language want to read the novels its native speakers read. Simply Fluent helps them read one, sentence by sentence. We are building a bookshop inside the app for those books, and we are looking for the authors who write them.

Books for learners stop long before a novel starts
Books written for learners use a fixed list of words. A survey of English graded readers found very few written above 3,000 words. A novel for native speakers takes 8,000 to 9,000 word families to read without help.
Most learners stop reading somewhere in that gap. Simply Fluent is built for it: the meaning of any word is right there on the page, so a learner can read a book written for native speakers well before they know every word in it. What they need then are books worth reading.
Today the Simply Fluent library is short stories and classics rewritten in modern language. None of it is by living authors, and none of it pays anyone. The bookshop is how we change that.
Graded readers: Claridge (2012), a survey of English graded reader series, counted in headwords. Novels: Nation (2006), counted in word families. The units differ, so read the gap as a matter of size, not an exact count.

A reader selects a word or a phrase and sees what it means in that sentence, not a list of dictionary entries.

A word they save shows its meaning above it on every page, in every book, until they mark it as memorized.
Read aloud
Text to speech reads the page out loud, so they can hear your sentences while they read them.

Books must be written by people. We do not accept books generated by AI.
These terms are not final. We are working them out with the first authors who sign up, and we will settle them together.

We are building it now and talking to the first authors, so there are books to buy on the day it opens.
Apply as an authorI have met authors writing in many languages, and I keep seeing the same thing: authors struggle to find readers, and learners struggle to find books in the language they are learning. I want Simply Fluent to bring the two together.
